A computer engineering student, who was a tenant in Ranchi, Jharkhand, has been apprehended for allegedly defrauding his landlady. The accused, identified as Abhishek Kumar, is accused of stealing ₹1.88 lakhs from the victim’s bank accounts. He removed the SIM card from the landlady’s phone and inserted a black SIM. Subsequently, he used the original SIM to create UPI accounts. The theft occurred between June 2 and June 15, 2025, using scanners at Common Service Provider (CSP) centers. The police have arrested the accused and recovered four mobile phones. The landlady filed an FIR with the cybercrime police.
