A cabinet meeting addressed the proposal to establish the Saranda region of West Singhbhum district as a Wildlife Sanctuary, leading to the formation of a Group of Ministers. This group is tasked with evaluating the proposal and advising the government on the matter. Their work will encompass a detailed study of the economic and social aspects of the region, with a report submitted to the state government. The final decision will be made by the cabinet after considering the input from all related departments and stakeholders. The sanctuary will cover an area of 575.19 square kilometers, which includes villages like Ankuwa, Samta, Karampada, Gudlibag, Trikoshi, and Thalkuwad. The Saranda forest is renowned for its valuable ecosystem, supporting a wide array of wildlife, including the endangered flying lizard, over 40 mammal species, 162 bird species, nine amphibian species, and 33 reptile species.
