A cute new face has arrived at the Birsa Zoological Garden! A baby hippo, born to Lily on July 2nd, is now delighting visitors. The little one is healthy and enjoying its time with its mother. The zoo’s veterinary officials are providing special care, including multivitamins for Lily to support the baby’s growth. The zoo acquired two hippos in 2008. The new arrival is part of a larger hippo family at the zoo, which now includes nine individuals. Lily’s previous offspring were born in 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2023. Lily came to the zoo in 2014 from Nandankanan Zoo in Odisha.
