Following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI-171 near Ahmedabad, former pilot Ehsan Khalid has offered his professional insights. Khalid suggests that a loss of power might have played a role in the accident, but he believes that a simultaneous failure of both engines is unlikely. The London-bound flight, which was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in the death of 241 people. Khalid believes that the Flight Data Recorder, Cockpit Voice Recorder, and ACARS data will be crucial for uncovering the exact cause. Based on available footage, he has ruled out the possibility of a mid-air explosion. Furthermore, he questioned the state of the landing gear, saying that its position after takeoff raised some questions. He mentioned that the pilot issued a mayday call before the crash. Khalid has also cautioned against premature conclusions, citing the complexity of the incident. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting a formal investigation in line with international aviation safety standards.
