In the wake of a tragic incident on the Mumbai railway network, Indian Railways will be redesigning its non-AC trains. The upgrades will include automatically closing doors and improved ventilation systems to enhance passenger safety and comfort. The updated trains are scheduled to be ready by November 2025 and put into service by January 2026, after necessary testing and certification. The new coaches will feature louvred doors and roof-mounted ventilation units to ensure proper airflow. The redesign also incorporates vestibules to allow passengers to move between coaches to better manage crowd distribution. This initiative comes after a fatal incident near Mumbra railway station, where overcrowding led to several deaths and injuries.
