The Indian Railways has directed all its zones to prioritize safety and increase vigilance during infrastructure development. The Railway Board has pointed out that damage to signal and telecommunication cables frequently occurs, which causes signal failures. These failures jeopardize the safety of trains and disrupt their smooth operation. The Board has warned that any form of negligence could have grave consequences.
The Railway Board’s communication explains that many major projects are currently underway throughout the country. These include track doubling, yard remodeling, construction of boundary walls, building limited height subways (LHS), Automatic Block Signaling (ABS), and the installation of safety systems such as Kavach. During these projects, damage to signal cables often occurs due to excavation or other activities, leading to signal failures and disruptions in train services.
