India commemorates its 79th Independence Day today, with the nation immersed in celebratory fervor. The day marks the anniversary of India’s independence from British rule in 1947, a pivotal moment in the nation’s history. It’s a day to honor the freedom fighters, recognize national progress, and celebrate unity. The Prime Minister will hoist the tricolor flag at the Red Fort, followed by a 21-gun salute and an address to the country.
This will be Prime Minister Modi’s twelfth address from the Red Fort. The theme for this year’s Independence Day is ‘New India’, emphasizing a vision for a prosperous, secure, and self-reliant India by 2047. The celebrations will host 5,000 special guests, including athletes from the Special Olympics 2025, farmers, village heads (sarpanches), young writers, and sanitation workers. The ceremony will also celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor. The band performing the national anthem will, for the first time, include Agniveers.
The celebrations will feature 85 sarpanches from across India. The spirit of Independence Day will be felt throughout the country. Spectacular displays will take place on Kartavya Path, showcasing the strength of the armed forces. Security is heightened around the Red Fort, with more than 11,000 security personnel, CCTV surveillance, and snipers on rooftops in the area.
Due to the Independence Day events, the Delhi Traffic Police has implemented changes to traffic routes. The Red Fort vicinity will be closed to traffic from 4:00 am to 10:00 am. Stay tuned for ongoing updates on Independence Day.
