The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) in multiple areas across the country this week, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kerala, and Madhya Pradesh. A “Red Colour Warning” has been issued to alert the public about the dangerous weather conditions. The IMD clarifies that this warning does not constitute a “Red Alert.”
On July 18, expect very heavy rainfall in some regions of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala. Heavy rainfall is also predicted for Rajasthan and South Interior Karnataka on the same day. Kerala is expected to receive torrential rain on July 19 and 20.
Heavy to very heavy rains are likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in North India from July 18 to 23. Uttarakhand will likely experience intense rainfall between July 18 and 20, and again from July 23.
East and Central India will also experience active weather conditions, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms anticipated in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. Continuous rainfall is likely in parts of the Konkan coast, Goa, and Maharashtra. Strong winds, with speeds of 40–50 kmph, are likely over peninsular areas of South India during the next five days.
