Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed his deep sorrow over the tragic truck accident that occurred in Hassan, Karnataka. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has released a statement detailing the financial support being provided to the victims. Families of those who lost their lives will receive 200,000 rupees from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, and the injured will be provided with 50,000 rupees.
The accident took place in Mosale Hosahalli village, Hassan, during a Ganesh Visarjan procession. A truck reportedly lost control and crashed into the crowd, resulting in the deaths of nine people at the scene. Twenty-two other individuals were injured in the incident and were promptly taken to a private hospital in Hassan for medical attention.
Police sources indicated that the majority of the victims were young men. Witnesses described that a truck coming from Arkalgud caused the accident.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his grief and stated the government’s commitment to assist the affected families. The government will offer an ex-gratia payment of 500,000 rupees to each family who lost a loved one. The state government will also bear the full cost of treatment for the injured.
Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy also expressed his condolences over the devastating accident, which resulted in the loss of life for several devotees. He appealed to the state government to ensure free medical care for the injured.
