Mainpal Dhilla, a criminal well-known to authorities, was arrested after being extradited from Cambodia. Haryana Police had been actively pursuing his apprehension. This operation involved close collaboration between the CBI, state police, and multiple Union ministries. Mainpal Dhilla, also known as Maipal Badli, a resident of Badli village in Jhajjar, is associated with 22 criminal cases, including charges of murder. He was already serving a life sentence related to three different cases from 2007 and 2010. Dhilla had been granted a six-week parole from Hisar Central Jail on July 17, 2018. However, he failed to return by August 29, 2018, and subsequently absconded. Acting on a request from the Haryana Police, the CBI issued a Red Notice for Mainpal Dhilla through INTERPOL on November 6, 2024. The CBI then worked with NCB Bangkok to establish his location, which revealed his travel path from Thailand to Cambodia. Consequently, the CBI collaborated with Cambodian authorities, who confirmed Dhilla’s presence in Cambodia under an assumed identity, supported by a fraudulently obtained passport. A request for provisional arrest was transmitted to NCB-Phnom Penh, Cambodia, through INTERPOL channels on March 26, 2025. NCB-Phnom Penh confirmed the arrest on July 24, 2025, and requested an extradition through diplomatic channels. Ultimately, Cambodian authorities made the decision to hand over the individual to Indian authorities. As a result, a team from the Haryana Police traveled to Cambodia and successfully brought Mainpal Dhilla back on September 2, 2025. INTERPOL Red Notices are utilized by law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate wanted individuals. The CBI, representing the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India, coordinates with all Indian Law Enforcement Agencies through BHARATPOL, utilizing INTERPOL channels. In recent years, this process has facilitated the return of over 100 wanted criminals to India.
