Gadkari goals 18000 km of highways @50 km a day

NEW DELHI: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday introduced an formidable goal of developing 18,000 km of nationwide highways within the ongoing fiscal by paving roads at a document pace of fifty km per day.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is trying to develop two lakh km of highways within the subsequent three years because the purpose is to broaden the community of trunk roads for facilitating inter-state motion of passengers and items throughout the nation, he mentioned.  

“Ambitious targets to fulfil the ambitions of New India! Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi ji, we are committed to expanding the NH network across the country with the aim of constructing 18,000 km of NHs in 2022-23 at a record speed of 50km per day,” the Union minister tweeted.

The street transport and highways minister emphasised that development of world class street infrastructure in a time sure and goal oriented approach is important. Gadkari went on to check it because the ‘Atma’ (soul) of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (a self-reliant India).

At current, India has roughly 1.40 lakh km of nationwide highways, together with expressways. While highways or expressways represent solely about 1.7 per cent of the size of all roads, they account for about 40 per cent of the street site visitors.

While the ministry had earlier set a document of developing 37 km per day throughout 2020-21, the waves of Covid pandemic had slowed down the progress and roughly 26 km of street had been being constructed per day.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) are primarily accountable for the development of nationwide highways and expressways throughout the nation.
