In Karnal district’s Gharonda locality, a tragic mishap occurred when an 11 kV high‑voltage cable snapped and struck a convoy of devotees travelling to a religious site. The moment the cable touched the vehicle’s chassis, an intense fire broke out, engulfing the rear seats where many passengers were seated with their backs against the vehicle. Over 20 pilgrims sustained injuries ranging from burns to fractures, and one individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Local hospitals received a surge of casualties, treating seven patients immediately and dispatching the rest to specialized centers. Police and power authorities have launched an investigation into why the live line was hanging unusually low.
