Ahead of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2025), law enforcement in Jammu and Kashmir have made a significant breakthrough, detaining a terrorist over-ground worker (OGW) using a cutting-edge Facial Recognition System (FRS). The incident occurred at the Langanbal Naka checkpoint near Pahalgam in the Anantnag district. The individual, a resident of Seer Hamdan with a past FIR from 2005, was identified by the FRS and subsequently taken into custody by Police Station Pahalgam. This operation demonstrates the effectiveness of technology-driven policing in the region. Extensive security measures are in place, including heightened electronic surveillance along pilgrimage routes and the establishment of no-flying zones along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. Helicopter services for pilgrims have also been temporarily suspended.
