Enhanced Safety Checks Ordered for Air India’s Boeing 787 Fleet by DGCA

Following the crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8, the DGCA has issued an order for enhanced safety inspections across Air India’s Boeing 787-8/9 fleet. The accident involved flight AI-171, which was en route from Ahmedabad International Airport to Gatwick, London. The crash resulted in one survivor among 242 passengers. Captain Sumit Sabharwal, an experienced pilot with 8,200 flight hours, and First Officer Clive Kunder, with 1,100 hours, were piloting the aircraft. The DGCA directive mandates immediate maintenance actions on B787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines. These measures encompass addressing recent technical issues, carrying out pre-departure inspections of fuel and cabin air systems, and conducting checks on engine systems and hydraulics. The directive also includes a review of takeoff parameters, implementation of flight control inspections, and completion of power assurance checks within two weeks. The DGCA will review the inspection reports.
