EAM Jaishankar pitches for higher connectivity in SCO area

NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday pitched for higher connectivity within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) area, however underlined that such initiatives ought to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states.

“Our total trade with SCO Members is only $141 billion, which has the potential to increase manifold. Fair market access is to our mutual benefit and the only way to move forward,” Jaishankar stated.

The CHG assembly is held yearly and focuses on the commerce and financial agenda of the bloc and approves its annual price range.

The SCO was based at a summit in Shanghai in 2001 by the presidents of Russia, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Over the years, it has emerged as one of many largest trans-regional worldwide organisations. India and Pakistan turned everlasting members in 2017.
