The village of Kheri, situated in the Bantalab area of Jammu and Kashmir, is reeling from the impact of landslides triggered by torrential monsoon rains. Approximately 15 to 20 houses have been damaged or destroyed, leaving residents without homes and seeking refuge in temporary shelters. The relentless rainfall has caused significant damage to the soil, rendering homes unsafe. Displaced families, many of whom invested their life savings in their homes, are now grappling with the loss of their homes and facing dire living conditions.
Residents have voiced their distress, describing the destruction of their homes and the desperate need for immediate assistance. Javed spoke of the destruction of his home and the lack of support, while Rafia recounted the sudden landslide that destroyed her belongings. Rubina expressed her concern for families with children, and another resident detailed the complete collapse of their house. Sumit Dhar from Talab Tillo in Jammu has initiated a relief effort to support the affected families, utilizing social media to gather and distribute essential aid.
