Delhi-NCR Weather Shifts as Rain Breaks Heat Spell

A dramatic change swept through Delhi-NCR on Thursday evening when thunderstorms and rainfall replaced the blistering heat that had gripped the region for days. Wind speeds reached 60 to 80 kilometers per hour, and moderate rain fell across multiple districts, rapidly cooling the air and easing the discomfort caused by temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department had accurately forecast the event, attributing it to a western disturbance and upper-level cyclonic activity. Residents in Delhi’s various zones, along with those in Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Faridabad, experienced the refreshing showers that also brought isolated hail in some pockets. The sudden temperature drop improved living conditions significantly and reduced pollution levels that had been elevated during the heatwave. Local authorities responded by issuing safety advisories, urging people to stay away from trees and electrical equipment during the storm. Forecasts now indicate that maximum temperatures will range between 34 and 37 degrees Celsius on Friday and 34 to 36 degrees on Saturday, with minimum temperatures expected between 22 and 25 degrees. These cooler conditions are likely to persist as the southwest monsoon edges closer to the region. While the rain has brought relief, officials continue to monitor for potential hazards such as waterlogging and falling debris. Residents have been asked to follow traffic updates and remain cautious until the weather stabilizes over the next few days.
