The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a heavy rain alert for the Delhi-NCR region, including Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad, due to persistent monsoon rainfall in North India. The weather forecast for Delhi includes the expectation of heavy rain.
Intense rainfall in Gurugram has resulted in significant waterlogging on roads, leading to extensive traffic congestion that spans several kilometers. The District Disaster Management Authority has issued an orange alert and advised the closure of schools, colleges, and offices, encouraging work-from-home arrangements.
Noida and Ghaziabad are also experiencing heavy rainfall today. The weather advisory has been extended to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where a red alert has been issued due to the high likelihood of very heavy rainfall and flash floods. Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir are currently under an orange alert. For safety reasons, schools and offices in the affected regions might stay closed today.
