The Supreme Court has assembled a three-judge bench to hear the stray dog case, on Thursday, August 14. The hearing is in response to public concern over a previous directive calling for the removal of strays in Delhi-NCR. Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria are involved in reviewing the case.
Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai on Wednesday stated that he will consider the relocation of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR. A petition seeking the regular sterilization and vaccination of the animals was mentioned before his bench, and CJI Gavai responded by saying, “I will look into it,” indicating his commitment to examining the matter. It is uncertain if the Chief Justice’s comment referred to the 2024 petition or the recent Supreme Court ruling that was met with criticism from animal welfare activists and NGOs.
