Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand is facing a major crisis after a cloudburst near Gangotri in Harsil. The resulting flash floods in the Khir Ganga have caused devastation, particularly in Dharali village. Several hotels have been destroyed, and there are numerous reports of missing persons. The death toll has reached four, with over 50 people still unaccounted for. Rescue efforts are being led by the SDRF, NDRF, and the army.

Dharali village, part of the Harsil valley, is a significant stop on the route to Gangotri. Located at an elevation of 9,005 feet (2,745 meters), it is renowned for its natural splendor and is positioned between Harsil and Gangotri. The village is 7 km from Harsil and 79 km from the Uttarkashi district headquarters, with a travel time of approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. According to reports, between 20 and 25 hotels and homestays have been affected by the floods in Dharali.
