A devastating incident occurred in Chirauti village on Tuesday when two young cousins tragically drowned in the Tesua drain. The news has plunged the village into deep sorrow.
The victims, 6-year-old Rabia Joshi, daughter of Anoop Joshi, and 7-year-old Ankita Joshi, daughter of Sanjay Joshi, were cousins. They, along with two other children, went to bathe in the drain.
During the summer, children frequently visit the Tesua drain to play and swim. On Tuesday, the two cousins went to the drain with their friends. While bathing, they lost their footing and were pulled into the deeper parts of the drain. The other children ran back to the village to get help. When villagers arrived and retrieved the children, it was too late. Sargawa police responded, conducted an investigation, and released the bodies to their families following a post-mortem.
The village is now consumed by grief. Family members are devastated, and villagers are left with the question of whether this tragedy could have been avoided with better supervision.
This event raises serious concerns about children’s safety. The joy of the children of Chirauti is now replaced by sorrow.
