Raipur, Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the state government, following the center’s lead, is also providing subsidies, which has more than doubled the average monthly number of applications and rooftop solar power plants. Electricity consumers in the state are preparing on a large scale to move from half electricity bills to zero electricity bills, which will be visible as a major achievement in the coming months. As per the government’s intention, the trend of consumers is now towards self-reliance instead of government schemes for cheap electricity.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the central government was providing a subsidy of Rs 30,000 for one kilowatt, Rs 60,000 for two kilowatts and Rs 78,000 for three kilowatts. To give great relief to the electricity consumers of the state, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai decided to provide subsidy from the Chhattisgarh government as well in the meeting of the State Council of Ministers held on June 18, 2025. Under this, a subsidy of Rs 15,000 for one kilowatt, Rs 30,000 for two kilowatts and Rs 30,000 for three kilowatts was announced. Due to which the total subsidy from one to three kilowatts became Rs 45,000, Rs 90,000 and Rs 1,08,000 respectively. Easy loan facility at an interest rate of 6 percent for 10 years from banks has also been made available for margin money.
On the special initiative of Chief Minister Shri Sai, instructions were given to provide state subsidy as soon as possible. Due to which in a program organized on September 8, a subsidy of Rs 1.85 crore was transferred to the bank accounts of 618 beneficiaries. Along with this, it has been arranged that now the state subsidy will be given within a month of installation. In this way, the trust and enthusiasm of the consumers has increased rapidly. Before the announcement of the state subsidy, the average monthly number of applications was 1,607 and the number of installations was 337. Whereas after the announcement of state subsidy on June 18, the average monthly number of applications has become 3,906 and the average monthly number of installations has become 744.
In this way, now a lot of enthusiasm is being seen for the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana in the state. The total number of applications has reached 58,500, out of which rooftop solar panels have been installed in 6,500 houses and the work of 17,000 is in progress.
