Chhattisgarh’s State GST Department launched a major crackdown, conducting simultaneous raids in Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Durg, Raigarh, and Jagdalpur. The operation focused on 25 locations linked to businesses dealing in gutkha, clothing, transportation, footwear, and dry fruits.
The raids resulted in immediate confusion and concern at several sites. Investigations uncovered that these businesses had reported substantial turnovers while either minimizing or completely avoiding tax payments. The examination of documents revealed several instances of bogus billing and illegitimate input tax credit claims.
State GST Special Commissioner TL Dhruv declared that tax evaders would face severe consequences. The department is preparing legal actions along with significant penalties. Notices have been served to all firm operators after confirming tax evasion of approximately ₹10 crore.
Additionally, the raids brought to light that certain businesses were operating without accounting software or transaction records, instead depending on unofficial bills and fabricated documentation.
