In a violent act of insurgency, Naxalites detonated an IED in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, resulting in the death of Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao Giripunje and injuries to several other police officers. The blast occurred near Dondra village. Injured officers were taken to Konta Hospital. The incident took place while the police were on patrol, given the bandh called by Naxalites. ASP Giripunje, who was on foot patrol to prevent any Naxal activities, died during treatment. Chhattisgarh’s Deputy CM, Vijay Shamra, expressed sorrow and acknowledged the ASP’s bravery. Following the attack, search operations have been intensified. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in the region. Previous incidents, such as the January 2025 attack in Bijapur, demonstrate the persistent threat posed by Naxal violence.
