A significant threat was averted in Bijapur district thanks to the vigilance of the security forces. On Saturday, during a demining operation conducted on the Gorna-Mankeli road, security forces successfully located and neutralized a powerful command IED, weighing 10 kilograms.
The incident unfolded after Naxalites committed a brutal murder of a young man in the same village on Friday, creating widespread fear in the area. The following day, the Naxalites attempted to target security personnel by planting explosives on the road, but their plan was unsuccessful.
The demining operation on Saturday involved a collaborative effort by DRG Bijapur, Bijapur Police Station, and the BDS team. During the search, soldiers noticed an electric wire on the side of the road. The area was immediately secured and a thorough search was conducted.
The search revealed the IED, which was concealed within a steel tiffin box. The explosive weighed approximately 10 kilograms and was connected to an electric wire approximately 70 to 80 meters long. Demonstrating caution and expertise, the BDS team carefully defused the explosive. A video showing the destruction of the explosive has also become available.
According to authorities, the Naxalites aimed to inflict harm on both security personnel and the general public. However, due to the swift action of the security forces, a major tragedy was avoided, and the Naxalites’ plans were foiled.
