Ration cardholders in Chhattisgarh may soon benefit from an extended deadline for ration distribution. The state government is working on extending the current deadline, which is set for June 30th. The new proposed deadline would be July 20th, 2025, which covers the distribution period from June to August 2025. The Food Department, following the instructions of Food Minister Dayal Das Baghel, has sent a letter to the central government to put forth this proposal.
The letter attributes the need for an extension to biometric transaction volumes and e-POS machine upgrades. Approximately 8.1 million families are receiving rations, necessitating 34.1 million biometric transactions. Further complicating the process was the unseasonal rain in May. The government hopes that an extension will allow eligible recipients to receive their rations without issue.
