A shocking double murder has occurred in the Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh on the day of Vijaya Dashami. The incident took place in the village of Raykera, under the jurisdiction of the Ghargoda police station. Two individuals from the same family were found dead. The victims were a mother-in-law and her son-in-law. Their bodies were discovered inside the house, and another female family member was seriously injured. The police have initiated an investigation at the crime scene.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Sukmet Sidar (80 years old) and her son-in-law, Laxman Sidar (60 years old). Initial reports suggest that they were murdered by strangulation. Sukmet’s daughter sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to Tingni Hospital for medical treatment. Medical professionals have stated that her condition is critical.
Upon receiving the information, the Ghargoda police and a forensic team arrived at the location. Based on the evidence collected and the circumstances at the scene, the police suspect a homicide. Initial investigations indicate that the incident occurred late Thursday night. The police have detained Laxman Sidar’s son and a neighbor from the village for questioning, considering them as potential suspects.
According to police sources, a dispute over land compensation could be the primary motive behind the double murder. Sukmet Sidar recently received compensation from NTPC for land acquisition. It is reported that the family was involved in ongoing disagreements regarding the compensation. Police suspect the murders were a result of this dispute.
Information suggests that Laxman Sidar, the deceased, had been living with his in-laws, at Sukmet Sidar’s residence, since his marriage. He is survived by one son and two daughters. The family had been experiencing financial and property-related tensions for an extended period. According to local residents, the dispute escalated after the compensation was received.
Police officials have stated that the post-mortem report will provide further clarity on the cause of death. While no formal arrests have been made, three members of the family are in custody and are currently being questioned.
