Dhamtari district is grappling with a murder case rooted in infidelity. A woman, who is a mother of two, is accused of having her husband killed after being involved in an affair and subsequently becoming pregnant by her boyfriend. The Konda Gaon SP Akshay Kumar and ASP Kaushalendra Dev Patel team spearheaded the investigation.
On June 30th, the body of an unidentified man was found in the forest of village Mageda. The initial investigation classified it as murder. A special investigation team was formed. The police found a prescription in the deceased’s clothing, which led them to Dharmveer. He had visited a Tamil Nadu hospital on June 27th for treatment. He was a resident of Nagari, Dhamtari. According to hospital records, Videsh Markam, his friend, had taken him from the hospital on June 27th, purportedly for further treatment.
Markam instead took him to Raygarh, Odisha. A cricket bat and petrol were purchased there. They then went to a forest, where the murder took place. The accused plied the victim with alcohol.
The attempt to conceal the identity by burning the body was unsuccessful due to rain. The police found a partially burned anti-rabies hospital slip with the deceased’s name. Contact was made with the Dharampuri Hospital in Tamil Nadu based on the anti-rabies vaccine schedule card.
Ravnina Nagarachi (deceased’s wife) and Videsh Markam (boyfriend) were arrested. The investigation revealed Ravnina’s pregnancy of 2.5 months with her boyfriend’s child. Her husband was the father of her other two children. Police found that the deceased’s wife spoke with her lover for hours before the crime. The accused lover kept changing his mobile number. The suspects were arrested and jailed.
