Raipur MP Brijmohan Agrawal has voiced strong opposition to the construction of an MLA colony on land in Nakti village, currently inhabited by impoverished families. He has written to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, urging an immediate halt to the project. The Chhattisgarh Housing Board plans to build the colony on a 15.4790-hectare plot (Khasra number 460). This land is currently home to over 80 impoverished families. Many families have received houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and community buildings and government constructions are also present. Brijmohan emphasized that the land is a shared resource of the villagers, preserved as a grazing ground by their ancestors. The Gram Sabha and Panchayat also oppose the construction. He has requested that the government avoid actions leading to homelessness.
Former MLA Devjibhai Patel met with Brijmohan, sharing the villagers’ plight. Most residents live below the poverty line, and the land is vital for their livelihoods and dignity. Brijmohan has urged the Chief Minister to halt the construction and maintain the status quo, suggesting that the colony be built on alternative vacant land. The situation has sparked the development versus displacement debate. Brijmohan believes that development is essential, but it should not displace the poor. The villagers hope for favorable action from the government.
