Raigarh, CG – A man has been arrested in Raigarh by the Mahila Thana police on charges of sexually assaulting a woman after befriending her on Facebook and falsely promising marriage. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody.
The victim reported that she met Dayaram Sidar in 2021 through Facebook. The two subsequently began living together in a rented apartment in Raigarh. The woman alleged that on April 9, 2022, Sidar initiated physical relations with her under the guise of marriage. The accused is accused of continuing to sexually exploit the woman for approximately four years while residing in various rented accommodations, consistently promising marriage.
The victim reported that Sidar employed manipulative tactics, repeatedly promising marriage and then making excuses and delaying the union. When the woman raised the subject of marriage, the accused avoided the issue and eventually refused to marry her.
Following the complaint, the Mahila Thana registered a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and conducted a medical examination of the victim. Police then apprehended Sidar, and following his confession, arrested him and presented him before the court, where he was remanded to judicial custody.
The swift action of the police was attributed to the efforts of Sub-Inspector Deepika Nirmalkar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Saraswati Mahapatre, and their team, who are still investigating the case.
