The district court in Korba, Chhattisgarh, has handed down a life sentence to Sahban Khan, a man from Ahmedabad, for the murder of his girlfriend. The crime took place on December 24, 2022. Khan, a bus conductor, was driven by jealousy and suspicion when he brutally killed his 20-year-old girlfriend. The court found him guilty of raping her and then stabbing her 51 times in the chest with a screwdriver.
Khan’s path to the crime began in Jaipur, where he worked as a bus conductor and met his victim. Their relationship deepened, but it took a dark turn when Khan became possessive and suspicious of her interactions with other men. He threatened both her and her mother, issuing a grim warning if she didn’t end these communications.
Fueled by his obsession, Khan meticulously planned the murder. He flew from Ahmedabad to Raipur, then onward to Korba. He stayed in a hotel before confronting his girlfriend. An argument soon followed, culminating in the rape and the savage stabbing. The woman died immediately, the only one present at the time.
The brother discovered the horrific scene and notified the authorities. The police collected crucial evidence, including blood-covered shoes, items of clothing, and a condom. With the aid of the cyber cell, the police apprehended Khan in Gujarat after weeks of investigation. During interrogation, he confessed.
Special Judge Jaideep Garg presided over the case, which resulted in a guilty verdict for Khan and the sentence of life imprisonment. Along with the jail term, the court also fined Khan 75,000 rupees, with a possible 18-month extension to the jail sentence if he didn’t pay the fine.
