Officials in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, euthanized two horses after they tested positive for glanders. The horses, both of the Sanjal breed, were given lethal injections. Their remains were buried in Bhittikla. Glanders is a serious illness found in horses, mules, and donkeys; humans can also be infected. The horses in question were owned by a resident of Nawapara, who used them for weddings and related events. After one horse showed signs of glanders, both were tested multiple times. After several inconsistent results, the final test confirmed both had contracted the disease. A three-month ban has been imposed on the entry of horses and similar animals in the area. Contact tracing is also in progress to control the outbreak.
