A disturbing case from Jagdalpur has led to a father being convicted of sexually abusing his own daughters. The court sentenced the father to rigorous imprisonment and a financial penalty, following proceedings under the POCSO Act that continued for a year and a half.
The case originated from a complaint filed by the children’s mother. The father was accused of sexually harassing his 12 and 14-year-old daughters and threatening them. The father’s own mother courageously reported the incidents to the police, which led to an investigation. The police registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act and the relevant sections of the IPC.
Fast Track Court (FTC) Special Judge Sangeeta Naveen presided over the hearings, which lasted for 18 months. The court found all charges to be proven and concluded that the crime was exceedingly harmful to society and the family. The father was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment and a fine.
