The Department of Posts is implementing significant changes to its Inland Speed Post (document) services, which include modifications to tariff rates and the addition of new features. These changes are scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2025.
The aim of these upgrades is to improve customer experience by offering new features.
Here’s a summary of the new features:
* **Registration Service:** Speed Post (documents/parcels) can now be registered to ensure delivery only to the actual recipient or an authorized person. This service will cost ₹5 per item plus GST.
* **OTP Verification:** Parcels will only be delivered after the recipient provides OTP verification, costing ₹5 per item plus GST.
* **Student Discount:** Students will receive a 10% discount on Speed Post services.
* **Bulk Customer Discount:** New bulk customers will get a 5% discount.
* **SMS Alerts:** Delivery-related information will be sent via SMS.
* **Online Booking:** Online booking for Speed Post services is available.
* **Real-Time Tracking:** Users can track their parcels’ location and delivery status in real-time.
* **User Registration:** Customers can register separately.

The government has revised the tariffs based on weight and distance.
* **Up to 50 grams:**
* Local: ₹19
* Up to 200 km: ₹47
* **51 to 250 grams:**
* Local: ₹24
* Up to 200 km: ₹59
* 201–500 km: ₹63
* 501–1000 km: ₹68
* Over 1000 km: ₹77
* **251 to 500 grams:**
* Local: ₹28
* Up to 200 km: ₹70
* 201–500 km: ₹75
* 501–1000 km: ₹82
* 1001–2000 km: ₹86
* Over 2000 km: ₹93
