IMD Issues Yellow Rain Warning as Monsoon Pulse Moves Across North India

A robust monsoon pulse is making its way from the Bay of Bengal toward the north‑west, prompting IMD to release a yellow alert for heavy rainfall over the next seven days. The system is expected to intensify as it crosses West Bengal, Odisha and parts of the east coast before steering toward the Indo‑Gangetic plain.

States such as Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, the Konkan‑Goa coastline, central Maharashtra and coastal Karnataka have all been placed under heavy‑to‑very heavy rain warnings. The agency highlighted that the moisture‑laden winds could trigger intense downpours especially in the hilly terrain of the north‑eastern states.

Meteorologists stress that the persistence of this system could keep large sections of the country under rain watches throughout the week, increasing the likelihood of flash floods in vulnerable catchments.
