Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms to Lash 22 States: IMD Update

The India Meteorological Department has provided a comprehensive forecast indicating that a massive weather system will cover nearly 22 states, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and even hailstorms. While North India, particularly Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, is currently facing extreme heat, relief is on the horizon. From May 28 to May 31, parts of North and West India will see a significant drop in mercury. In Bihar and Odisha, the weather is expected to take a turn on May 29 and 30, with some districts in Bihar even facing the possibility of hailstorms. Jharkhand is also expected to see intermittent thunderstorms over the next week. In the Himalayan region, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand are under a rain alert from May 28 to May 30, while Himachal Pradesh will see activity on May 28 and 29. Eastern Uttar Pradesh is bracing for even more intense conditions, with surface winds potentially reaching speeds of 60-70 kmph on May 29. Meanwhile, Rajasthan is likely to witness dust storms during the same period. This widespread atmospheric instability marks the end of the current peak summer intensity, shifting the focus toward moisture-heavy conditions and localized cooling across the plains and hills alike.
