A double murder has sent shockwaves through Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, occurring on Vijayadashami. The incident took place in Raykera village, within the jurisdiction of Ghargoda police station. Two family members, a mother-in-law and her son-in-law, were found dead inside their home. A female family member was also seriously injured, prompting a police investigation.
The deceased have been identified as Sukmet Sidar (80) and her son-in-law, Lakshman Sidar (60). Authorities suspect they were strangled. Sukmet’s daughter sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Tingni Hospital, where her condition is critical.
Police and a forensic team responded swiftly. Evidence at the scene suggests murder. Initial investigations point to the incident occurring late Thursday night. Lakshman Sidar’s son and a neighbor are in custody for questioning.
Sources suggest a land compensation dispute may be the motive. Sukmet Sidar recently received compensation from NTPC. Family disputes over this money were ongoing, leading police to suspect it was the cause.
Lakshman Sidar had lived with his in-laws since his marriage. He had a son and two daughters. There were existing family tensions over finances and property. Villagers state the dispute escalated after the compensation was received.
Police await the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death. No arrests have been made, but three family members are being questioned.
