EOW Files 1500-Page Charge Sheet Alleging Massive Commission and Asset Gains

The Economic Offences Wing has presented a 1,500‑page charge sheet before the special court handling corruption offences. The document details alleged kickbacks, cash receipts and luxury items received by former municipal chief engineer Baghirathi Verma.

Investigators say Verma demanded a 25% commission on municipal contracts awarded between 2019 and 2022. Money trail analysis shows cash payments of Rs 32.65 lakh in 2019, followed by the delivery of two diamond rings valued at roughly Rs 40,250. Additional assets include tiles and granite worth Rs 3.39 lakh supplied for his residence, and a total of Rs 42.65 lakh documented as commission during the 2020 financial year.

Bank and digital transaction scrutiny revealed multiple transfers to personal accounts of acquaintances, including amounts of Rs 55,000, Rs 75,000, Rs 60,000 and Rs 20,000, totaling over Rs 2.1 lakh. The EOW asserts that these movements were orchestrated under Verma's direction to conceal the proceeds of the scheme.
