The threat of elephants has once again emerged in a district of Chhattisgarh, prompting the Forest Department to issue a high alert in 13 villages. Villagers have been strongly advised to remain inside their homes. The warning comes amidst concerns over the movement of elephants in the area’s forests. This has raised significant worries, especially among farmers who are busy with farming tasks, coinciding with the ongoing monsoon season.
Based on Forest Department information, a herd of elephants has been moving in the forests of Forest Development Corporation compartments 155, 156, 126, and 127 for the last three days. Forest Department teams are closely monitoring the elephants’ activities.
The alert has been issued in the following villages: Chhatal, Talajhar, Murumdih, Daldali, Keshaldih, Sukulbay, Nandbaru, Amloor, Khirsali, Bandora, Raymuda, Jhakhmuda, Achanakpur, and Fuseradih. The Forest Department has appealed to villagers to avoid entering the forests, particularly during the morning and evening hours.
The presence of elephants poses a double challenge for farmers. The current period is when they are planting and preparing fields, but due to the Forest Department’s warning, villagers are now hesitant to visit their fields.
