Amidst a political debate over his use of a chartered aircraft for a visit to Chhattisgarh, Bageshwar Dham’s Dhirendra Shastri has issued a clear response, emphasizing his Indian citizenship. Shastri, who was in Bhilai for a religious event, directly addressed the criticism regarding his mode of transport. He stated that as an Indian citizen, he should not be singled out or questioned over how he travels, distinguishing himself from foreign nationals.
Speaking publicly, Shastri pointed towards Minister Guru Khushwant Saheb and indicated that the logistical arrangements for his travel were handled by others. He questioned the focus on his aircraft journey when, in his view, individuals causing harm to the country or looting public wealth face no such repercussions. Shastri listed his own charitable and social activities, such as promoting Hindu values, supporting cancer hospitals, arranging marriages for underprivileged girls, and campaigning against drug abuse, as reasons why such scrutiny seemed unwarranted.
He suggested that the criticism reflects a biased viewpoint and indicated his intention to remain silent on the matter to prevent further controversy. Shastri reiterated that he harbors no ill feelings towards those who have criticized him and appreciated the support he has received, also noting the significant impact of media reporting on public discourse.
