An outbreak of Tomato Flu is currently creating problems in the Bilaspur region. The disease is particularly affecting children, with those between nine months and seven years old being the most susceptible. Symptoms include fever, stomach pain, red skin rashes on various parts of the body, and sores inside the mouth. Hospitals are reporting a growing influx of parents bringing their children in for medical care.
Dr. Lakhan Singh, the SIMS Superintendent, shared that an increase in flu cases has been observed in the hospital. However, it has not yet been confirmed if these cases are Tomato Flu. Tomato Flu is generally a self-limiting illness, meaning it typically clears up on its own within a few days. The primary treatment involves providing general medication and ensuring sufficient rest. Experts advise that children with more severe symptoms require immediate medical attention. Schools have become centers for the spread of the disease, prompting school officials and teachers to advise parents to keep children home at the first sign of symptoms. Medical professionals advise that children should stay away from school for a minimum of 7 to 10 days and only return after complete recovery.
The name ‘Tomato Flu’ is attributed to the distinctive red, tomato-like rashes that manifest on the skin of affected children. This viral infection tends to spread rapidly, especially among younger age groups. Experts encourage parents to prioritize hygiene and monitor their children’s diet to prevent the spread of the virus. Doctors suggest that although the disease is not life-threatening, caution is essential due to the possibility of transmission. It is recommended that children avoid crowded environments and seek immediate medical help if any symptoms arise. Rest at home is advised for any viral infections.
