Chhattisgarh is set to experience a major infrastructure and development boost with the upcoming launch of projects exceeding ₹260 crore. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will preside over the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremonies during the Swachhta Sangam-2025, scheduled for August 12, 2025, in Bilaspur district.
The Swachhta Sangam will provide a platform to recognize and honor the sanitation workers whose efforts have brought national acclaim to Chhattisgarh. Additionally, urban bodies that have demonstrated excellence in the Swachh Survekshan-2024-25 will be acknowledged for their achievements.
The event will see participation from a diverse group of stakeholders, including mayors, chairpersons, health department representatives from municipal corporations, presidents, vice-presidents, municipal commissioners, chief municipal officers, senior engineers from urban bodies, and nodal officers from the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). The gathering will also include nine thousand sanitation workers.
Dr. Basavaraju S., Secretary of the Department of Urban Administration and Development, highlighted the core objective of the Swachhta Sangam: to enhance urban cleanliness and beautification. The event will also acknowledge seven leading urban bodies in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, with awards to be presented by President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi. Furthermore, more than 30 urban bodies that have performed commendably at the division level will be honored.
To promote improved cleanliness and urban aesthetics, a state-level competition will be launched at the Swachhta Sangam. This competition is designed to enhance urban sanitation efforts, strengthen good governance, and encourage beautification initiatives. It will not only contribute to cleaner and more attractive cities but also elevate the quality of life for residents. The competition aims to inspire local officials, stakeholders, and citizens to improve urban cleanliness and beautification efforts.
During the event, a GIS-based property tax live portal will be inaugurated, enabling online property tax payments across three municipal corporations—Birgaon, Bhilai-Charoda, and Dhamtari—and 43 municipalities. This initiative signifies a significant advancement in local self-governance, offering convenient access to services for citizens while also boosting tax collection efficiency.
As part of the development initiatives, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for a variety of projects. These include the inauguration of 24 construction and development works worth over ₹63.57 crore and the foundation stone laying for 25 projects valued at over ₹197 crore, all within Bilaspur district. Beneficiaries of various schemes will also receive essential materials and checks during the event.
The inaugurated projects will include a commercial complex in Nutan Chowk, an STP in Koni, a girls’ hostel at the Government Engineering College, road improvements, and a two-lane road. Additionally, the नल-जल scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission will be launched across 11 villages.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister will lay the foundation stones for the construction of the Nalanda campus and academic block, a gaurav path, and several road projects. These include the construction of an Atal Path and road projects under the Chief Minister’s Urban Upliftment Scheme. Other initiatives encompass projects such as the construction of a high-level bridge on the Arpa River, projects from the Municipal Corporation, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Public Works Department, Rural Engineering Service, and Panchayat and Rural Development Department.
