A significant update has emerged from Chhattisgarh regarding the Naxals’ data security protocols. It has been revealed that they are using ProtonMail, a secure email service, as indicated by a press note issued by the Naxals. This service, offered by Proton Technologies AG of Switzerland, is known for its commitment to user privacy.
The email addresses the Naxals are using aren’t standard email accounts, instead they are part of the secure ProtonMail service, known for its ability to facilitate confidential data transfers. The usage of ProtonMail has previously been linked to ISIS.
An appeal was made in India to ban ProtonMail. The Karnataka High Court has directed the Indian government to block ProtonMail within the country. This directive came about because of a case concerning the sending of insulting and inappropriate emails to a female employee.
