An interesting story comes from the Gariaband district in Chhattisgarh. A man from the Mainpur block made a significant life change: leaving his career as a bus driver to become a horseback rider. Nakul and his family now exclusively use horses for their travels, and he also offers riding services in the area.
His decision was based on road safety concerns, and he transitioned to a life of farming and riding.
Nakul BC, 48, from Banuwapara in Mainpur block, made the change from being a bus driver to a life centered around horses. He and his family have relied on horses for travel for the past 10 years, and he owns two horses. He began working in the transport sector at 20, starting as a bus conductor and later becoming a driver.
What Led to the Change?
Banuwapara, where Nakul lives, lacked adequate road infrastructure to reach the district headquarters. His 10,000-rupee salary barely covered the expenses of his two children and wife. The dangers of high-speed travel added to his stress. Seeking a change, Nakul used profits from corn farming to buy his first horse. After writing letters about roads and employment that yielded no results, he started using horses for travel. He now supplements his income through horseback riding services.
Nakul’s Viewpoint
Nakul shared that his job caused constant stress, affecting him and his family. He was often away from his family. Switching to farming and riding has allowed him to spend more time with his family and earn a higher income. He utilizes his free time after farming to provide horseback riding services.
