The Chhattisgarh government has put a stop to the registration of agricultural land that is less than 5 dismil in size. The Inspector General (Registration) has sent a notice to all district registrars regarding this new directive. This follows the introduction of the ‘Chhattisgarh Land Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill-2025’ in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, which included new provisions for land purchases and sales. The rule has been implemented immediately following its publication in the official gazette. This move aims to curb the illegal plotting and associated problems that had arisen from the registration of smaller land parcels. The regulation will not apply in urban areas, where land is typically not categorized as agricultural. The registration of land for commercial and residential usage in urban areas will continue unaffected. The amendment bill also establishes legal status for georeferencing technology. The technology enables the creation of statewide digital maps, which are intended to minimize disputes related to land boundaries, divisions, and name changes. These digital maps are legally valid for court and administrative tasks.
