A search was launched at the Gangrel Dam in Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh, after a man’s belongings were discovered near the water, leading to the assumption he had drowned. The search involved police and divers and lasted 12 days. Ultimately, the man was found in Delhi, having staged his disappearance to escape financial troubles. Hemant Chandravanshi, from Kawardha, had been staying with friends at a resort near the dam. On May 25, Chandravanshi’s companions left to get supplies, and when they returned, he was gone. His friends informed the Rudri police. A drowning investigation was started, but after extensive searching, the police’s suspicions were raised. Tracking a second phone number, the police discovered Chandravanshi’s location in Delhi. He was apprehended and brought back to Dhamtari. ASP Manishankar Chandra confirmed that Chandravanshi’s severe debt had motivated him to create the false death scenario. He is facing legal consequences for his actions.
