The tragic events of December 24, 2022, in Korba, Chhattisgarh, culminated in a life sentence for Sahban Khan. Khan, a resident of Ahmedabad, was convicted of the brutal murder of his girlfriend. The court heard how Khan, driven by suspicion and jealousy, had raped the victim before stabbing her 51 times in the chest with a screwdriver.
Khan, a bus conductor, met the victim while working on the bus route. They developed a romantic relationship, and he had expressed his desire to marry her. However, his suspicions about her interactions with other men led to conflict. He attempted to control her actions and even threatened her family.
On the day of the murder, Khan traveled from Ahmedabad to Raipur and then to Korba. He then went to her home, where an argument ensued. In a fit of rage, Khan committed the heinous act, leaving the woman dead at the scene. Her brother discovered her body and alerted the authorities. The police investigation uncovered crucial evidence, including blood-soaked items. After a thorough investigation, the police, with the help of the cyber cell, arrested Khan in Gujarat. During questioning, he admitted to the crime.
The District Court delivered the verdict, with Special Judge Jaideep Garg presiding. Sahban Khan was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. In addition to the prison sentence, he was also fined 75,000 rupees, with the possibility of an additional 18 months in jail if the fine was not paid.
