In a poignant display of courage, Sub-Inspector Mohd Imteyaj and Constable Deepak Chingakham of the 7th BSF battalion were posthumously honored with the Vir Chakra for their supreme sacrifice during Operation Sindoor. Their unwavering resolve against a significant Pakistani offensive on May 10 at the Kharkola Border Outpost in Jammu has been etched in the annals of bravery.
The operation was a strategic retaliatory measure against terrorist activities. During a fierce engagement involving mortar shelling and drone attacks, SI Imteyaj, severely injured by an explosive, refused to falter. He continued to command and inspire his soldiers with the resolute command, “Jawano, aaj khatam kar do inko,” demonstrating incredible leadership under duress.
Constable Chingakham, also gravely wounded by shrapnel, chose duty over self-preservation. He remained at his post, fighting valiantly alongside SI Imteyaj and continuing the defense until his final moments. The Vir Chakra recognizes their exceptional gallantry, their role in neutralizing enemy threats, and their ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their story is a powerful reminder of the BSF’s dedication and the bravery displayed on India’s frontiers.
