The ongoing youth protests in Nepal have become increasingly violent. Despite efforts to control information flow through internet media restrictions, the demonstrations are persisting. Given the unrest in Nepal, the Indian state of Bihar is taking precautionary measures. Security forces and police in the six districts of Bihar that share a border with Nepal are on high alert.
The international border with Nepal, specifically impacting West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, and Kishanganj, has been sealed. This action follows instructions from the Bihar Police Headquarters. The movement of tourists is entirely restricted. Furthermore, local residents are undergoing rigorous security checks before being allowed to cross the border.
Increased patrolling is evident at the border posts and villages.
The Border Security Force (BSF), the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and other security and intelligence units are operating under high alert, as directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Police Headquarters has directed the district magistrates and police superintendents in the border areas to coordinate their efforts with those in neighboring districts. Police and SSB personnel are undertaking patrols near border posts and in the surrounding villages.
Special directives have been given to police and SSB personnel.
Intelligence units are focusing on events occurring in Nepal’s border regions. The police and SSB personnel are tasked with maintaining vigilance and are prepared to handle any unforeseen situations. The Police Headquarters control room is constantly receiving updates from the police superintendents of the border districts. Officials have indicated that they will assist any Indian citizens who may be stranded in Nepal near the border.
ADG (Law and Order) Pankaj Kumar Darad stated that the international border will remain closed until stability returns to Nepal. Tourist access has been completely banned.
