The transport department in Bihar has taken decisive action in response to the death of a 6-year-old student in a Jehanabad road accident on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The department seized the bus involved and filed a case under the Motor Vehicles Act against the vehicle owner and driver. Initial investigations revealed that the bus did not meet the required safety standards.
Further inquiries showed that the bus’s fitness certificate had expired in February 2024, yet the vehicle was still in operation. Moreover, the driver lacked a valid driving license, and the bus was without essential documents such as insurance and a pollution certificate. The transport department determined that the vehicle was being operated unlawfully and unsafely.
The driver was also found to be operating the bus in a careless and dangerous manner. As a result, the transport department has levied a fine on the driver and the bus owner, who will face serious penalties under the MV Act. The department has clearly communicated its commitment to prioritizing child safety.
The District Transport Officer and Motor Vehicle Inspector of Jehanabad have been instructed to take strong action against school administrations, vehicle owners, drivers, and other individuals responsible, in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act and other related legal provisions. The department emphasizes that the safety and well-being of children is their top priority and that any negligence in this matter will not be tolerated.
In the wake of this tragic event, the transport department has ordered the inspection of all private schools in the district. This directive aims to ensure compliance with the government’s safety regulations. Inspections will cover each school vehicle’s fitness, insurance, pollution certificates, and permits. Any vehicle found to be deficient will face immediate action.
The accident occurred in the Sikaria police station area of Jehanabad district. The 6-year-old student, Chiku alias Piyush Kumar, died after falling from a dilapidated school bus. He was a student of San Public School, Kadouna. The driver’s sudden braking near Sikaria Mod caused Chiku to fall through a large hole in the floor and be run over by the rear wheels, resulting in his death at the scene.
